    Henry Wetzel

Academic Fields: English language arts; elementary arithmetic-precalculus; IEC services.

Henry Wetzel holds ten years of experience in education as an academic coach, writer, and researcher. After graduating with honors from the University of Rochester, he opened a private practice focused on holistic academic coaching. He works with a diverse range of students, from those who need support in a single math course to families under profound circumstances who want to ensure a positive academic journey for their child.

With the goal of providing a holistic approach, Henry maintains a rigorous study to ensure a continued expertise of the western literary canon, k-12 mathematics, and an understanding of contemporary approaches to education, both in the U.S. and internationally. He attends symposiums, seminars, and classes to stay current in the field.

In 2023, Henry founded Foghorn Education Center, a nature-based center offering summer camps, youth programs, field-trip expeditions, and an open-source online curriculum. His writing and research in education, children’s literature, and fiction have led to partnerships and publications with magazines, educational institutions, and symposiums nationwide. As a guest speaker, he visits schools and institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest each year to share his approaches and developments on nature-based education.

With many students, a positive academic journey requires much more than a conceptual understanding of coursework. Confidence or the lack thereof can have profound consequences on a student’s academic performance. Executive functioning, scheduling, and academic curiosity can also shape the outcome of how a student learns. For these reasons, Henry focuses not only on tutoring, but on providing a comprehensive coaching experience in order to expand a student’s scholarly capability.

Henry’s passion for personalized education is rooted in his own experience. As a child, he was given an IEP for a supposed learning disability. This disability turned out to be a physical disability within his eyes, leaving him unable to read until age nine. Corrective vision therapy unlocked his ability to learn and ignited a love for education. This journey drives his commitment to ensuring that every student has access to a truly personalized and empowering educational experience.
