Language Arts

Private lessons for students of all ages

These will be customized lessons based on your student’s needs, goals, and school curriculums. Writing is an incredible tool that transcends disciplines. Be it English, history, social studies, or even the sciences, an ability to closely read and analyze literature, as well as an ability to write clearly, concisely, and convincingly is a discipline with life-long benefits.

For younger students, I offer lessons in reading comprehension, literacy, handwriting, and basic rhetoric for creative and analytical writing.

For high school students, I offer in depth sessions in writing (analytical writing, creative writing, or nonfiction) for better usage of rhetorical devices, sentence structure, syntax, style, and format. Sessions in curriculum-based literature analysis will be focused on annotation, comprehension, and an instruction of poetics within a given piece. Poets like Elizabeth Bishop, William Shakespeare, Charles Baudelaire, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Langston Hughes will be introduced to your student for better strength in understanding basic poetics (to be applied to novel-length texts assigned in class).

I am available to teach all works of literature within the western canon taught k-12.

Mathematics

Private Lessons for Students of all ages

A hands-on, personalized approach that meets your students where they are. I find that in mathematics, it is important to establish 3 main starting points for successful growth: (1) to find what a student currently understands in their course, (2) to find a student’s best learning pace and style, and (3) to set attainable, relevant goals that build a student’s confidence, comprehension, and the mathematical tool kit for future courses. In addition to subject-based lessons, we will also discuss test anxiety, test preparation, memorization, and grade goals.

  • Elementary arithmetic: Tactile, hands-on approach to 1st-3rd grade curriculums.

  • Intermediate and middle school levels: The basics of multiplication, fractions, division, long division, word problems, algebra, and introductory geometry.

  • Algebra I standard course.

  • Geometry standard course.
