College Admissions Coaching: Full Circle Consultation

Timeline: September-December; April decision.

Finding the right fit, getting together applications, writing a stunning essay, and ultimately deciding on a college is a long, but sometimes exciting four months. After this journey has played its final act, there lies the four year adventure of a student’s life, filled with personal development, professional development, and (in a good handful of cases) learning how to live in a different city, state, or country.

This process is more holistic than some may think. It is not simply a process of choosing and applying to a college with correct professional opportunities. Academe is a place of personal development, too. An environment wherein a student begins to understand their professional interests, intellectual curiosities, relationships, and what they may believe their impact on this world has to hold.

As an educational consultant, I offer guidance, experience, and managerial work as we find and accept an offer of admission to the right college.

For these sessions, each student will get a recap emailed to them with further guidance and an organizational list on the next to-do steps, based on what we discussed throughout our session.

Rate: $70 per hour session

The College Essay: Editorial Consultation

With unique prompts each year, sometimes varying between the common application, international applications, and UC school applications, finding an essay subject, then writing the essay, can be a lengthy task. Most students end up writing multiple essays, covering their personal backgrounds, professional aspirations, and prompt-guided subjects. It is important to identify three things in the essay: (1) subject matter, (2) expression of that subject, eg. the student’s opinion, and (3) the framing of that subject, eg. introductions, body, conclusions, and in some cases, narrative framing. From there, use of poetics, correct grammar, concise syntax, and proper use of rhetorical devices make an essay shine.

I offer two kinds of editorial consultations. The first is to talk about the subject matter of the essay. These sessions will breakdown into (1) what essays we need to write, (2) what we will write about, and (3) what attitude we will take toward the subject matter that we choose.

The second kind of editorial consultation will be a thorough look at the student’s essay, a page of feedback, a copyedited copy, and a consultation about syntax, diction, and concept.
